Photographed by Philippe Ullens at Avebury East Field, Wiltshire, in 2008, this image reveals the formation’s magnificent scale through the presence of people within the frame. Ullens recounted that when the farmer realized he intended to photograph the circle from the air, the harvester was intentioanlly diverted and driven into the formation to destroy it. This image became the first and only photograph Ullens was able to capture. The crop circle’s many spirals form a powerful symbol of rebirth and spiritual development.
